Julia Allal is an active freelance musician in the Washington, D.C. area. She can be heard playing in a variety of ensembles in addition to her role as second oboist and publicity associate of The Apollo Orchestra. Julia has recently performed at the Music Center at Strathmore and The Kennedy Center, and was previously the principal oboist of the Michigan Philharmonic. She has participated in The Sarasota Music Festival, The Banff Centre for the Arts, and played principal oboe in Opera du Perigord’s productions of Offenbach’s La Perichole and La Vie Parisienne in France. In addition, Julia maintains a private studio of oboe students who participate in prestigious youth orchestras and receive the highest ratings at Maryland All State festivals. She received her Bachelor’s degree in oboe performance from the University of Maryland and her Master’s degree in oboe performance from the University of Michigan. Julia is currently the Group Services and Community Outreach Manager at Strathmore. In addition, Julia and her husband, a bassoonist, own Aria Double Reeds, (www.ariadoublereeds.com) a business selling new and used oboes and bassoons and other double reed accessories. In her spare time, Julia enjoys running, traveling, reading, and spending time with her husband and their three year old son.
