Elizabeth O'Hara Stahr has degrees from Temple University (B.M. Viola Performance, 2005) and The Catholic University of America (M.M. Viola Performance, 2011). At Temple, she was in the studio of Curtis Institute violist Evelyn Luise, retired principal viola of Opera Philadelphia and student of Max Aronoff. Elizabeth’s most influential orchestral experience came at Temple under the baton of Maestro Luis Biava, retired principal second violin and Conductor-in-Residence of the Philadelphia Orchestra. At CUA, Elizabeth had the privilege of studying with Tsuna Sakamoto of the National Symphony Orchestra. She has also benefited from the coachings of prestigious chamber musicians at Temple and CUA such as violinist Helen Kwalwasser, Philadelphia Orchestra violist Sidney Curtiss, and ‘cellists Orlando Cole, Michael Mermagen and Jeffrey Solow. In addition to serving as principal viola at Apollo Orchestra, Elizabeth performs in several premier ensembles, including the Amadeus Orchestra, American Pops Orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Shippensburg Festival Orchestra, and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Elizabeth also has extensive experience with chamber music as a founding member of two professional ensembles and most recently, as a member of the Fairfax Chamber Ensemble from 2012-2014. She is now the violist of St. Charles String Quartet. Elizabeth is the artistic director of Crescendo, Arlington VA’s own youth chamber music experience for students in grades 8-12. She operates a private violin/viola studio in the Alcova Heights neighborhood of Arlington, and also has the privilege of being a viola sectional instructor at several schools throughout Fairfax County. Elizabeth most recently joined the faculty of GMU and Potomac Arts Academy’s Ovations Summer Strings Academy as a chamber music and sectional instructor. Elizabeth, her husband Matthew, and their two cats Bo and Lane live in Arlington, VA. Natives of Hershey, PA, they are both avid Pittsburgh Steelers fans and enjoy hosting friends for the games. Elizabeth also enjoys cooking, dining out, swimming and travel, especially to Sandbridge Beach, VA, where her parents and grandparents live.
